Masses for DepMode

A lot of hard hitters are on this tribute for Depeche Mode, which makes this compilation my favorite tribute to a great band. For Failure, “Stuck on you” was the preemptive strike, while their cover of “Enjoy the Silence” was their imminent blow. It became their second successful single on alternative radio in 1998. So much is going on in this track with its rich textures, but would be the final song released by the quartet until their reunification in 2013 as a powertrio.

From the opening track “Never Let Me Down” reworked by the Smashing Pumpkins, followed by God Lives Underwater version of “Fly On The Windscreen.” The only tracks that I’m not familiar with the artist are: a trip hop group called Locust (not the boisterous The Locust), Rabbit in the Hole, or Apollo Four Forty. A favorite track next to Failure’s cover is Hooverphonic’s “Shake the Disease” as well as Deftones’s “To Have and To Hold.” Other stand out tracks are Self’s “Shame” and Rammstein’s “Stripped.” Enjoy this album in its entirety!
